Before Starting Up (Part 1)

I want to share few tips which I learned from my startup journey.I have experienced these things. Everyone knows about business plan, investors, revenues and all that. I think, startups fail because most of the  entrepreneurs were not mentally ready to start up. These tips are for those who want to start their their own company but are not sure. This is the first part of my post, I'll post the next part shortly.

Nothing is Impossible

First of all, let me share the most important point which I learned during my journey of 9 yrs....so far. Believe in 'NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE'. When you believe, you can achieve unachievable things. The mindset lets you think and try for the things which others can only think. I believe this is the first thing you should set in your mind.

Know the Motive

You need to know: Why you want to start your business? Are you just doing because your friends are doing or Just for the money or You think its exciting or Its really solving a problem. This will set your mind in the right direction.

Know Your Self

Before jumping into the startup wagon, know your self. Yeah...I know, you'd say "I know myself" "I can do this". Thats good but what I mean is, Know about your responsibilities ( this can distract you ), your bank balance ( its needed during starting up ), Do you have risk taking abilities? Can you enjoy the stress, keep your self motivated and handle your achievements.

Put Some Gap

Now if you have decided that you'd start your own business......Hold It. Don't start preparations for the business. Yes.....Hold your decision for at least 1 month. During that period keep your self away from business activities. That is to check, if there is still burning desire after one month, do you still want to start your company, if yes, go forward with full confidence and focused. If you are doubtful, my dear check your decision again.

BlindSearch - Who is better Google, Bing or Yahoo

Thursday, September 3, 2009 1 comments

Michael Kordahi, an employee at Microsoft, opened up his project for the public. It allows users to search in Google, Bing and Yahoo from only one box and see which one is better...not aggregating but it is showing the results in an interesting way.

When a user searches, results come up in 3 sections and every section has a button on its top to VOTE. You are not told which results are from which site. After clicking the button you get to know which results are from Google, Yahoo or bing.

The results surprise you as they are not from Google most of the time.

After 8 weeks of the launching, Michael Kordahi opened some stats:

Query count: 559,239

Results: Google: 41%, Bing: 31%, Yahoo: 28%

These facts show that there is no big difference between all these search engines.

So what does that mean, Can we believe the results or Michael has done a great job.

According to Michael Kordahi "I work for Microsoft. This site is not affiliated with my employer, it is not a Microsoft initiative, it's simply me having fun in my spare time."

Let me know what you believe.
